Canucks vs Blue Jackets Game Review 28/03/2025

The Canucks face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets continuing their race to a playoff spot. The Canucks would start the game with a shot on goal from Garland. After a great interception from Raty he would spring Sherwood for a rush but he would miss the net. The Jackets would get a long shot from the point on a rush that Lankinen would swallow. After Hughes dumps the puck in, Suter would get a steal and look to set up Boeser but it wouldn’t go. Sherwood would find his way in on a rush again and his shot would be stopped, the puck would go back to the point and Forbort would walk in and his shot would be gloved by Merzlinkens. The Blue Jackets would get in the Canucks zone and a shot from Gudbranson that would deflect out of play. Off a draw Fabbro would walk in and would put it in front it would go off Lankinens pad and the Canucks would clear it. Severson would bobble the puck and Boeser would come in and he’d try to set up DeBrusk in front but it wouldn't find him. Later on an entry after a nice play by Joshua, Monahan would shoot the puck over the glass and it would send the Canucks to their first powerplay of the game. The powerplay would start with the Canucks setting up Boeser after shooting the puck would turn it over and Hughes would make a good defensive play to stop the 2 on 1. The Cnaucks would come back but Boeser would turn it over again and the Jackets would clear. The Canucks would come back and would make a great play as it would go Garland to Sherwood to Karlsson and in for his second of the year to take a 1-0 lead. Sherwood would come in on another rush but his pass would get deflected. Off a draw Garland would throw one on goal and it would drop between Merzlinkens legs and he would find it and cover. Garland would get another shot that would be easier for Merzlinkens as he would make a glove stop. The Canucks would come in on a rush and Hughes would drop to Boeser and would fire it home for his twenty fourth of the year to take a 2-0 lead. But on the goal Hughes would get cross checked to the ice a little size difference and the Canucks would take exception and the Blue Jackets would go to the powerplay off the scrum. The Jacket would come into the zone and the Canucks would get it just out of the zone. They would regroup and they would get some chances but some blocks from the Canucks and they would clear. After another clear Werenski would get a good shot then there would be a trouble puck for Lankinen that would stay out and then a redirection in front that Lankinen would save. The Canucks would come out on a rush as the powerplay expired and after Suter’s shot missed the net Blueger would be tripped and the Canucks would go to their second power play of the game. The powerplay would start with the Canuck chasing the puck. They would get in and set up and after a shot from Boeser, DeBrusk would put the rebound in for his twenty fourth of the year to take a 3-0 lead. Columbus would come back and get two shots on goal that Lankinen would stop. Play would go back and forth for a bit until the Jackets would get a shot from the point that Lankinen would stop and there would be some rough stuff after. Play would go back and forth for a bit until Severson would get a shot that Lankinen would block away. Columbus would keep the pressure as they look to get on the board and they would get a couple chances but the Period would end in a 3-0 Canucks lead. That was the pest period the Canucks could’ve had and they just need to keep the pace and keep the lead.

The second would start with some back and forth until Mateychuk would put one on goal that would tip off Jenner and in for his third of the year to cut the lead to 3-1. Play would go back and forth with the Canucks getting a chance until the Canucks would set up and Hughes would set up Garland for a one tee and Karlsson would get a rebound but they’d both stay out and then Hughes would get a shot at Merzlikins would save. The Jackets would come in and Mateychuk would have another shot deflected this time wide and the Canucks would ice the puck. The Jackets would come back again and they would get two chances that would be stopped and then blocked but they couldn’t get the puck out and it would go to Marchenko and he would put it in for his twenty seventh of the year to cut the lead to 3-2. Later the Jackets would keep it in the Canucks zone for a bit and off a draw they puck would go to Fabbro and his wrist shot would go in for his sixth of the year to tie the game. After the Canucks had the puck in the blue Jackets zone the Blue Jackets would get a chance that Lankinen would stop it. Later as the Blue Jackets entered the zone D Petey would take a double minor high sticking penalty and the Jackets would go to the powerplay for their chance to take the lead. The powerplay would start with Blueger almost getting a rush and then a shot from Johnson that would be stopped. The Jackets would set up off the draw but the Canucks would clear. They would reenter but it would get stopped and Sherwood would go down and find Myers in front and he would redirect it in for his sixth of the year to retake the lead at 4-3. Voronkov would tip a shot wide and the Canucks would clear. The Jackets would come back but after a board battle and a clear they would have to reenter. They would but the Canucks would get it out again. The Canucks would get another clear and spoil the reentry and get a rush and get a whistle in the Jackets zone. Canucks would get another two clear as the powerplay draws to an end. Mateychuk would get a shot that Lankinen would save and the powerplay would end and the Canucks would come out of it better than the team with the powerplay. Myers would get hit by two players kind of from behind and he would complain at the ref. Play would go back and forth for a bit until the Jacket would get a rush the Canucks would fend off then Blueger would go on a rush but Mezlinkins would save it. The Canucks would come in on a 2 on 1 and Garland's shot would be stopped and Suter couldn’t put in the rebound and then Garland's one tee would miss the net. DeBrusk would get a shot on goal that would be stopped. Olivier would send a puck in front and Lankinen would rob Sillinger. Play would go on and the Second would end in a 4-3 Canucks lead. Why can’t they ever make it easy? I swear they always make it hard to win.

The third would start with my Telus glitching out again so the third will be the highlights. The third would start with a chance for the Blue Jackets that Lankinen would stop and the Canucks would come back and Raty would fire it home for his fourth of the year to extend the lead. Not too long after the Jackets would come down and Jenner would set up Mateychuk for a shot that would fly past Lankinen for his fourth of the year to cut the lead to 1. Later the Jackets would have the puck in the Canucks zone and Sillingers shot would bounce out to Danforth and he would put it home but the play would be reviewed and determined to be goalie interference so no goal. Later the powerplay though the Jackets would get on back with a shot getting tipped by Jenner and in for his fourth of the year to tie the game. Later Fabbro would put one in front and Olivier would put home the rebound for his seventeenth of the year to take a 6-5 lead. The Canucks would come back with Joshua charging the net and putting it on and Raty would put it in for his fifth of the year to tie the game 6-6. That's how the third would end and the game would need overtime.

Overtime would start with Columbus in possession they would enter but lose it to Hughes and he 'd get stopped on the breakaway that followed. The jackets would have possession. Jenner would try to score but he’d miss and the Canucks would get possession and would golf until a nice play by Boeser and DeBrusk that would get stopped. The Jackets would come back but the Canucks would steal and Sherwood would run into Merzlikins and it wouldn’t get called and play would continue 3 on 3. The Jackets would win the draw and get into the Canucks zone they would regroup twice and the Canucks would steal on the second one and regroup. Sherwood would get a shot and then Hughes would come in and there would be a great defensive play to stop him and Sherwood would come in again and it would get stopped by Merzlikins. The Jackets would win the draw and control they would skate up and get a shot that Lankinen would save. The Canucks would win the draw and control within a minute. They would take a bit and then come into the zone. They would regroup and Hughes would skate in and his shot would be stopped and the game would go into a shootout. 

The first shot for the Blue Jackets would be for Kent Johnson who would score.

The first shot for the Canucks would be for Jake DeBrusk who would be stopped 

The second shot for the Blue Jackets would be for Adam Fantilli who would be stopped

The second shot for the Canucks would be for Conor Garland who would be stopped.

The third shot for the Blue Jackets would be for Kirill Marchenko who would be stopped

The third shot for the Canucks would be for Jonathan Lekkermakki who would be stopped

I know im positive but HOW DO YOU LOSE THAT GAME WHEN YOU HAVE A LEAD HOLD IT.
