Now Let’s get into This Week in CanucksLand,
The Canucks started off their week against the Winnipeg Jets in a game that would be hard to win but one they have one before would that be the case? No, they would start the game with a goal from Pius Suter but then the Jets would take over with three straight from Kyle Conner, Mason Appleton, and Cole Perffeti. The Perfetti goal was amazing. I have to give credit, what a goal. The Canucks would fall 3-1 in a must win game and for me this was when the playoff hopes died. They now have to chase the Wild as the Blues will just not lose.
The Next game and their first game in their new race was against the Seattle Kraken in a game that they should win but they yet again can’t. This is a must win easier game (there are no easy games in hockey but Seattles a weaker team). They yet again blew the game this time in embarrassing fashion this time as they would fall 5-0 as Seattle would get goals from Eyssimont, Stephenson, Wright, Burakovsky, and Larsson. Just not the game that they needed at this time when they are still trying to fight for a playoff spot. Last game made me think the playoff run was over. This game is the one that put the dirt over the grave of our playoff hopes and me being realistic knows it is over, but I’m still hopeful.
The Next game was against the Anaheim Ducks in a game where they lost more players due to injury but still put in a dominant performance against the Ducks. After they let in the first goal from Troy Terry they would score the fastest five goals in franchise history with goals from (D) Elias Pettersson, Hronek, Boeser, Garland, and Joshua. The goal from D Petey was his first career NHL goal and he was due in my opinion, he has played really good and has been the best rookie to join the team this year. This was a win and play that they needed way before now and they seem to be back to the way that they have been like the last few seasons except for last year. Hopefully this is the start of a playoff miracle but I think this is just this team being late to the punch and showing they can do it when it’s too late. It was still a good game for them and I do think that they can take what they did in this game and use it in future games this season and next season.
Players of the Week:
Quinn Hughes GP 3 G 0 A 2 P 2 SOG 4 H 2
Kiefer Sherwood GP 3 G 0 A 1 P 1 SOG 8 H 21
(D) Elias Pettersson GP 3 G 1 A 0 P 1 SOG 2 H 6
Overall this week was the dagger in the hearts of the Canucks and their fans as they went 1-2 and look to be out of the playoff race. Next week the Canucks faceoff against the Golden Knights, Stars, Avalanche, and Wild. if they can go 3-1 with a win over the wild they could still be in the race but it would still be a reach but it would help.
